FO Catch Up!

November 29, 2007

I’ve been a blog slacker. Between the end of the semester wrap up and getting my Ravelry invite I’ve been too busy to post. Also, I wasn’t happy with blogger thus the switch to wordpress as my blog host.

Sine my last post I’ve finished several things. First, with the help of my wonderful Carly my Toadette Hat for Halloween. She also finished her Yoshi costume and we were a hit. Maybe one day I’ll type up the pattern, but I doubt it. I mostly winged it looking at pictures and I used a basic beret pattern for the top half.

Halloween ‘07 Toadette Hat
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver in Pink and White
Needles: US Size 8 Circular & DPN
Started & Finished: October 2007

Second, I finished my Dashing Gloves and made a hat to go with them. The hat turned out a teeny bit too small to wear comfortably. I haven’t decided what to do with it yet. I’m thinking of gifting it to someone with a smaller head, I don’t want to frog it because I feel like the yarn will rip.

Dashing Set
Yarn: Crystal Palace Taos, 100% Wool
Pattern: Dashing
Needles: Size US 7 DPN
Started: October 2007; Finished: November 2007

Finally, I found some more brown wool and finished the First Socks!

First Socks
Yarn: Wool from the stash in Pink and Brown, I seem to have lost the information.
Pattern: Yarn Harlot Basic Sock Pattern
Needles: US Size 2 DPN
Started: September 2007; Finished: November 2007

And, I found some pretty awesome stuff poking around earlier this evening. There’s KnitMap , you can plug in a zip code and find a yarn store near you or add your favorite yarn stores so that more people can come across them. I was pretty amazed with how many locations they had already. I think it’s still in beta, but I’m not 100% sure. Then, there’s 12 of 12. A photo project where people document the 12th of each month in 12 photos. I’m going to try to remember to do it some month soon.

Almost first Sock FO.

November 8, 2007

:(

I was minutes away from finishing the second sock in my first pair and ran out of both the pink and brown yarn I was using.

Things were going good:

Then I ran out of brown:

So, I decided that we could add character by finishing in pink. And, I ran out of pink:

It’s a sad day for sock knitting.

Wonderful Weekend!

October 22, 2007

This weekend was a three-day weekend for me as Friday was our Fall Break from school. I spent it relaxing and enjoying good company outside of my building. Also, there was some shopping and some knitting. :)

First, I finished my first sock!! Carly took a super cute picture before I grafted the toe, but it’s on her computer and I left it there. Maybe I’ll put it here one day. All you get now is the finished product. I feel like it looks really big, but I swear it fits warm and cozy and perfectly!

And no, there’s no Second Sock Syndrome here, I’m about 1/3 of the way done with it’s mate. I’ll be sure to post pictures on them on my feet once they’re finished.

Also, I give to you a picture of my stash growth over the past few weeks. A lot of it is from this weekend, some from the 50% off racks. Also, I would like to note that there is project in mind for everything you see here. That just makes me feel good about myself.

That’s all for now, I’ve got plenty of class work to get caught up on after such a fantastic vacation.

Socks & Shopping!

October 17, 2007

So this post isn’t all about new toys, here’s some sock progress. I finally turned the heel and have made about an inch of progress since this picture was taken.

I ordered some things from ebay, an Etsy shop, and discovered an LYS. This lead to many great finds and one happy kid. :D

I made a purchase last week from Blue Kitty Designs and it arrived today. It was packaged oh so pretty in tissue paper and a bow.

Inside, were a project bag and two needle wallets. One wallet for my 6 inch metal DPNs and one for my 8 inch wooden DPNs.

And, my needle lot from ebay came in today too. I got Fiddlesticks bamboo DPNs in size 2,3,4,5,6,7,8, and 10.

Current WiPs

October 12, 2007

Let’s just get things started right. I’ve been knitting for a couple years now, but only ever really made hats, scarfs and other small or simple things. I’m starting to get into the more complex stuff and have recently discovered a love of socks.

I’ve got a couple things on the needles, let me share.

First, we have my first real pair of socks. I’m using the pattern from Stephanie Pearl-McPhee’s Knitting Rules! as a starter but also playing with stripes. Hopefully a Christmas Gift if I can finish them satisfactorily.

Second, and the only other thing I’m actively working on is a part of my Halloween costume. I’m going as Toadette, reference pic provided first:

I’m knitting a beret hat and plan to attach knitted balls as the braids. I’m about 1/3-1/2 done with the hat.

That’s all I’ve got for you right now. Look for updates as I finish and start things. :)
