I’m not Dead.

March 26, 2008

I swear.

Flicker hates me like none other, I lost my iPod, and I’m still having difficulties figuring out the wordpress system and such but there has been knitting and it has been mostly good. I will post more on my projects later I hope when I am home but today is a busy day.

I have spent the last couple of days looking up cheaper alternatives to some of the things I have decided I need in knitting. Namely a ball winder and a swift. I feel that I found the perfect ball winder for myself and my current life. It’s a beautiful hand made Nostepinne . Not made by me, but ordered from someone else on etsy. Now, I am trying to be patient and wait for it to arrive in my mailbox, but it is difficult. I saw this great tutorial and knew it was just what I needed to save my thumb without hurting my wallet. Now, I just need a good alternative to a swift. So, I located three viable options but I’m pretty sure which one I really want to use.

1. Wine, Hangers, and Duck Tape. Oh My!
2. A computer chair and markers?! Ingenious!
3. If only I could really make things from wood… This would work.

So, I think option 2 is the best thing. But, I need to investigate my computer chair first. I was also thinking about looking for one at Good Will and just taking the chair part off and possibly adding dowel rods in place of markers. We shall see what happens in the end.

Current WiPs

October 12, 2007

Let’s just get things started right. I’ve been knitting for a couple years now, but only ever really made hats, scarfs and other small or simple things. I’m starting to get into the more complex stuff and have recently discovered a love of socks.

I’ve got a couple things on the needles, let me share.

First, we have my first real pair of socks. I’m using the pattern from Stephanie Pearl-McPhee’s Knitting Rules! as a starter but also playing with stripes. Hopefully a Christmas Gift if I can finish them satisfactorily.

Second, and the only other thing I’m actively working on is a part of my Halloween costume. I’m going as Toadette, reference pic provided first:

I’m knitting a beret hat and plan to attach knitted balls as the braids. I’m about 1/3-1/2 done with the hat.

That’s all I’ve got for you right now. Look for updates as I finish and start things. :)
